Welcome to the OCA History departmental page! In History, we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that allows our students to engage with all aspects of both local and global history. Each OCA historian will have the opportunity to experience immersive history lessons on a range of topics, allowing them to engage with the human race’s fantastic past. We firmly believe that understanding our past is the key to unlocking our future.
In History lessons, it is our aim to provide pupils with all of the information to allow them to decide whether studying History at KS4 is right for them. Our History teachers inspire curiosity and allow pupils to come to their own conclusions when discussing key historical events. In historical study, one of the key skills is analysis, which we develop right from the word go! We want inquisitive, engaged young historians who thrive on knowledge.
History staff use the curriculum time provided to delve into our past. However, we understand that it is vital that our pupils have the opportunity to experience History outside the classroom. For this reason, we arrange trips to Liverpool Slavery Museum, Shiverpool, the University of Liverpool and more. We also provide the opportunity for international travel on our trips to Krakow and Berlin.
Lessons are planned with the aim of linking to modern society and further opportunities for our pupils. Careers links are made throughout KS3 and KS4 to allow pupils to uncover potential future pathways.
We look forward to seeing you in class!
