March 1, 2017
Congratulations! You are joining an outstanding academy. Please have a read of the Ofsted report featured on this page; we’re very proud of it!
I am delighted to welcome you as our newest OCA’er to your new school. You may be feeling a little nervous about the move to secondary school, trust me; you’re parents/carers are more nervous than you! Let me put your mind at ease by letting you know what happens next…
You will shortly receive a letter from Mrs Humby welcoming you to your new school, it is from now we firmly consider you a part of the OCA family.
Throughout March and April I, (Miss Roberts) will visit you in your Primary School where I come bearing gifts! A special OCA goody bag with all of the essentials you will need in preparation of your move to us in September.
‘Around the World’ Saturday Academy kicks off on Saturday 25th March, you will have, or will shortly receive a letter from me with more information. You may have attended sessions last year so will have a good understanding of what the sessions are about and I’m sure you’ll agree they are a lot of fun! More information regarding Around the World can be found on the school website in the ‘enrichment’ tab.
You will see me quite a bit in your Primary School as I like to meet with your teachers regularly so I can gather as much information about you as possible. I like to know who your friends are and who you would like to be put in a form with. Your teacher will tell me what subjects you like, and if you struggle with anything they will let me know so I can make sure that support is in place before you even start! I am interested to know your hobbies and interests outside of school to ensure that there is an enrichment activity for you.
For those of you joining OCA from a school on your own or knowing only a few other people, don’t panic! You will have extra days at OCA and a bowling trip to look forward to with other students also joining on their own or knowing only a few others. This extra time here with your peers will support you in making new friends and getting to know your new school quicker.
At the end of June, all of the new OCA’ers will spend one week here and it is on the first morning of that week you will be put in your form. I always make sure you are with friends in your form, don’t worry about being on your own; that won’t happen. It will be a busy week for you as there are lots of exciting lessons currently being planned for you! The week at OCA will give you a real flavour of what life is like here. You’ll love it!
During the transition week there will be an evening for your parents/carers to come along and meet you Form Tutor. This evening is an opportunity to ask questions and to further more put minds at ease.
You will then return to Primary School for your last few weeks as a year 6 student. I’m sure you will be getting ready for trips, sports days, leavers assemblies and much more before the Summer Holidays start.
September will then be upon us which marks the start of a new academic year and more importantly we welcome our new year 7’s. To mark such an occasion you and your family are invited to a ‘Welcome Breakfast’ in the dining room before the prestigious ‘Tie Giving Ceremony’ commences in the Main Hall. It’s a wonderful morning and a fantastic photo opportunity for your families to snap you in your full OCA school uniform.
We can’t wait to meet you!
